El Toro Tops Irvine, Wins League Title

Gioconda Mendiola scored 19 points and sister Giuliana had 17 as El Toro won its 22nd consecutive league game and second straight Sea View League title with a 60-45 victory over Irvine Thursday at El Toro.
The Chargers (19-4, 10-0), ranked No. 2 in the county, led by one after the first quarter and pulled away by outscoring Irvine, 27-14, in the next two quarters.
Jody Carlson led Irvine (16-10, 5-5) with 17 points.
In the Century League:
El Modena 45, Santa Ana Valley 35--Valarie Matweeff’s 12 rebounds made her the all-time leading rebounder for El Modena (10-13, 4-6) with 833. She finished with 11 points. Santa Ana Valley is 10-15, 2-8.
In the Empire League:
Century 54, Kennedy 24--Charlenda Van Buren scored a season-high 17 points for Century (22-3, 10-0). Aprile Powell added 20 points for the Centurions and helped Century clinch the league title. Kennedy finished the season (7-19, 0-10).
In the Orange League:
Valencia 59, Savanna 42--Kelly McKibben (20 points, 13 rebounds) and Monika Jackley (15 points, 16 rebounds) each scored double-doubles for Valencia (18-7, 8-2).
In the Pacific Coast League:
Costa Mesa 58, Aliso Niguel 31--Autumn Smith led the host Mustangs with 16 points and 18 rebounds. Nancy Hatsushi contributed eight assists.
Costa Mesa (17-10, 8-2) finished league play in second place. Aliso Niguel dropped to 5-21, 2-8.
Laguna Hills 65, Estancia 57--Anne Bubriski led the Hawks to the league championship with a game-high 26 points and seven rebounds. Teammate Shannon Owens contributed 10 points, 10 steals and five assists.
University 53, Laguna Beach 23--Fala Suiaunoa scored 16 points to lead University (13-13, 5-5). Suiaunoa broke the school career three-point record this season (151) with three three-pointers on the night. She also set a new school single season record with 81 three-pointers this year.
In the Olympic League:
Orange Lutheran 46, Maranatha 38--Nicole Grady led all scorers with 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Orange Lutheran (14-10, 8-4). Orange Lutheran earned their first playoff berth in three years with the win.
No. 1 Brea Olinda 91, Magnolia 32--Lindsey Davidson led Brea Olinda (23-3, 10-0) with 27 points, 10 rebounds and five assists. Jill Trader had 16 points and Jerri Armendariz made 10 assists and five steals for Brea Olinda.
In the South Coast League:
No. 5 Mater Dei 70, Trabuco Hills 39--Junior Kristian Kirkpatrick had 18 points and 12 rebounds to lead the host Monarchs to a victory, ensuring at least a tie for the league championship.
Junior Lindsay Pavlik and freshman Jessica Williams had career highs for Mater Dei (19-5, 9-1), with 19 and 12 points, respectively.
In the South Coast League:
No. 7 San Clemente 61, Capistrano Valley 32--Colleen Turnbull had 21 points and 13 rebounds and Debby Caine had 12 points and seven assists for San Clemente (19-8, 9-1), which clinched a co-league championship with Mater Dei. Capistrano Valley is 9-16, 4-6.
In the Sunset League:
No. 4 Edison 56, Huntington Beach 50--Michelle Zylstra scored a team-high 15 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead the host Chargers (22-5, 10-0).
Huntington Beach dropped to 17-10 (4-6).
