When young British pop fans discovered reggae and ska in the late ‘70s, the result was the second-wave movement that spawned bands such as the Specials, the Selecter and Madness. The Specials’ early ‘80s albums had some of the bounciest music of all. Third-wave ska bands such as No Doubt are keeping interest in the style alive, giving the Specials and others reason to keep touring. The Specials, minus original singer Terry Hall and keyboardist Jerry Dammers, play a club show tonight in Newport Beach, a far cry from the venue the group played last year for the Warped Tour in the great outdoors of Irvine Meadows.

* Hogue Barmichael’s, 3950 Campus Drive, Newport Beach. 8 p.m. With Debonair, Cosmic Jukebox, Crazy Wizdom. $15-$20. (949) 261-6270.
