Students from Buena Park and Kennedy high schools who will receive the city’s Student Recognition Awards later this month are in for a surprise: The City Council recently upped the amount of this year’s awards to $500, from $100 last year. And next year the amount will be $1,000. The awards honor one male and one female student from each of the two high schools who demonstrate outstanding performance in academics and extracurricular activities. The winners, chosen by two City Council members, will be announced later this month.
