1 Killed, 3 Hurt as Bridge Collapses

A truck carrying a backhoe hit a pedestrian bridge in Arbutus, Md., and sent it crashing down on the Baltimore Beltway at the height of afternoon rush hour, killing one person and critically injuring three others. The bridge crushed the front ends of three cars. The man who was killed was trapped in his sport utility vehicle, officials said. Three women were hospitalized in critical but stable condition.
