Every quarter is rough if you’re playing Westlake. Especially the second.
The Warriors (7-1, 4-0 in league play) have outscored opponents in the second quarter, 121-7. Overall, they have outscored teams, 293-75.
The Warriors even held Clovis West, ranked No. 10 in the nation by one publication, scoreless in the second quarter.
Buena is the only team to score against Westlake in the quarter, in the season opener.
“It doesn’t get much better than that, I guess,” said Coach Jim Benkert of Westlake. “I would imagine it’s partly because a lot of times we defer. Our opponents get the ball more often [in the first quarter] and we get it more in the second quarter.
“By that time, we’re running on both cylinders on both sides of the ball.”

How balanced is the Newbury Park offense?
The Panthers lived by the pass in recent years, but have rushed for 1,334 yards and thrown for 1,335 this season.
With two regular-season games left, the Panthers (4-4, 3-1) have already rushed for more yards than they did in four of the last five seasons. Last year, they rushed for 1,458 yards in 11 games.
