Hasek Aggravates Injury

A bad season got worse for the Buffalo Sabres, who learned Monday that goaltender Dominik Hasek aggravated a groin injury sustained last season and could be sidelined several weeks. . . . Fan balloting has begun for this season’s NHL All-Star game Feb. 6 in Toronto. Fans can vote at arenas, selected restaurants and on the Internet until Jan. 3. . . . Washington Capital General Manager George McPhee has returned to work after a month-long ban. Commissioner Gary Bettman suspended McPhee and fined him $20,000 for a fight outside the Chicago Blackhawks’ locker room after a Sept. 25 exhibition game in Columbus, Ohio. Upset that the Blackhawks had used a lineup of brawlers, McPhee started his own brawl by punching Chicago Coach Lorne Molleken. . . . New Jersey’s Randy McKay was suspended for three games by the NHL for slashing Philadelphia’s Ulf Samuelsson and will forfeit $29,799.60.
