Prep Basketball Player Dies

Lawrence Jenkins, a basketball player at Los Angeles Ribet Academy High, collapsed and died Monday night.

Jenkins, 17, was taken from the school by paramedics to Glendale Memorial Hospital and Health Center at 5:30 p.m. and was pronounced dead at 7:51 p.m., a hospital spokesman said.

The Los Angeles County coroner’s office is investigating the cause of death, the spokesman said.

Ribet Academy, a private school with approximately 120 high school students, was scheduled to open its season today against Norwalk Pioneer Baptist.
