Ventura is off to its best start since 1992, but don’t plan a parade route yet.
“Being 3-0 is not bad,” Coach Phil McCune said. “But I look at the records of the teams we’ve beat and our opponents have one [combined] win. We’re not that good yet.”
Simi Valley is 0-3, Royal is 1-2 and Moorpark is 0-3 after forfeiting a victory over Channel Islands because of two ineligible players.
Ventura, which plays at Rio Mesa tonight, has run to glory with Tyler Ebell, who has rushed for 492 yards, the fifth-best mark in the region.
The Cougars might not upend two-time defending champion Buena in the Channel League. But the future is bright--33 players, including Ebell, return. “Our young kids are getting better,” McCune said.
