Vanbiesbrouck Streak Reaches Three Again
Philadelphia’s John Vanbiesbrouck tied his club record with his third consecutive shutout as the Flyers defeated the Florida Panthers, 2-0, Sunday night at Philadelphia.
Vanbiesbrouck stopped 22 shots in recording his 38th career shutout. It was the fourth consecutive victory for the Flyers after opening the season 0-5-1.
Vancouver 3, New York Rangers 0--Kevin Weekes extended the Rangers’ scoreless streak to 234 minutes, 31 seconds over three games, stopping 19 shots to lead the Canucks to a victory at New York.
Mark Messier scored an empty-netter with 8.5 seconds left to tie Mario Lemieux for sixth place on the all-time goal list with 613. Canuck forward Donald Brashear did not play as he began serving a two-game suspension for a check on New York Islander defenseman Jamie Heward.
