* Reynolds & Reynolds Co. said it plans to sell or spin off its document services business within six months to concentrate on its automotive division. The unit, which makes business forms for hospitals and other businesses, accounted for $730 million of the company’s $1.56 billion in revenue for fiscal 1999 and employs about 5,000 of its 9,200 workers.

* Safety Components International Inc., a top maker of automobile air bag fabrics, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection from its creditors amid efforts to restructure bank and bond debt. The Greenville, S.C.-based company also faces several lawsuits alleging that it issued falsified accounting statements that artificially inflated the stock price.
