Man Critical After Car Hits Utility Pole

A 21-year-old Oxnard man is in critical condition, after crashing his vehicle into a utility pole early Sunday morning.
The driver, whose name was withheld, was taken to St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo. He was treated before being moved to Ventura County Medical Center with several open fractures, including open skull fractures.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the man was driving at a high rate of speed westbound on Highway 118 near Price Road just after 5 a.m. The car crossed into the eastbound lanes and off the roadway.
The motorist was trapped in the vehicle and had to be extracted by Ventura County Fire Department rescue workers, the CHP reported.
The accident is under investigation.
