Lancaster Loses Sledge for the Season

Terrmel Sledge will miss the rest of the season with an injured left shoulder. The left-handed outfielder, who leads the California League in batting with a .339 average, has returned home to Granada Hills to rest before undergoing further examination.

Seattle Mariner doctors suspect Sledge, who missed part of last season with a shoulder injury that required surgery, has torn the labrum in his shoulder.

Sledge, who played at Kennedy High, Cal State Northridge and Long Beach State, batted .318 for short-season Everett, Wash., last season after being drafted by the Mariners in the eighth round. He started this season at lower-level Class-A Wisconsin before being promoted to the JetHawks.
