Lompoc Doesn’t Have a Napoleon Complex

Ventura High expected to play top-seeded Westlake in the Southern Section Division IV semifinals.
Instead the Cougars get Lompoc tonight, which isn’t exactly a junior varsity.
For 10 years, Lompoc was known for being the former stomping grounds of running back Napoleon Kaufman of the Oakland Raiders, but that changed with a stunning 31-24 victory over Westlake last week.
Ventura Coach Phil McCune believes the game between Ventura (11-1) and Lompoc (10-2) is the real championship.
“The truth is, teams in this half [of the bracket] are better than teams in the other half,” McCune said. “I think this is the finals, unless whoever wins it gets beat up so bad by the other team that they can’t win next week.”
