No. 6 Woodbridge Holds Off No. 7 El Dorado
Guard Patrick Haddan hit six late free throws, helping No. 6 Woodbridge hang on to beat No. 7 El Dorado, 71-67, in the semifinals of the Taco Company Invitational Friday at Loara High.
Danny Lambert led Woodbridge (3-0) with 20 points. Mike Wulff scored a game-high 22 for El Dorado (2-1).
Woodbridge plays Villa Park tonight at 8 at Loara for the championship.
In the other semifinal:
No. 3 Villa Park 65, Esperanza 53--Tommy Stankan scored 15 points and Matt MacGinnis had 11 for Villa Park (3-0), which outscored the Aztecs, 21-14, in the third quarter.
In consolation games:
Costa Mesa 52, Troy 51--Steven Whittaker scored 14 points and Mike Payne had 12 for Costa Mesa (2-1) in a consolation semifinal. Nate Gilkes scored 17 points for Troy (1-2), which missed two shots in the closing seconds.
Trabuco Hills 75, Anaheim 65--James Webster scored 19 points and Ian Wright added 13 for Trabuco Hills (2-1). Quinn Hawking scored 22 points for Anaheim (1-2).
In the Pacifica tournament:
Edison 43, South Gate 39--Matt Gonzales hit a three-pointer with 25 seconds remaining to give Edison (2-1) the lead for good. Kyong-Su Min led the Chargers with 15 points and Gonzales finished with 12 in the pool-play game.
In the Lancer Pride tournament:
Bakersfield Garces 75, Orange Lutheran 62--Marc Troyer had 24 points, 15 rebounds and five blocks for Orange Lutheran in the second-round game.
In the San Luis Obispo tournament:
No. 4 Santa Margarita 60, Santa Barbara San Marcos 43--Travis Smith had 21 points, Len Collins 13 and Brandon Rohe 12 points and 10 rebounds for Santa Margarita (2-0), which advanced to play Encino Crespi in today’s championship game.
In nonleague basketball:
No. 5 El Toro 69, Aliso Niguel 62--Matt Green caught an elbow near the eye that required stitches in the first half, but came back to score all 10 of his points in the second half for El Toro (2-0). Ashkan Nazari had 22 points and Chris Parish 19 the Chargers.
