Norway Opens Tunnel; Called World’s Longest

OSLO — Norway’s King Harald V last week opened what was said to be the world’s longest road tunnel, at 15.3 miles. Cutting under a mountain range, the toll-free, $113-million Laerdal tunnel is a key stretch on a road linking Oslo and the western port of Bergen. It provides an alternative to mountain passes that are closed by snow in winter and spring, and car ferries across fiords.
