Brea Olinda Opens Season With 67-Point Victory
Jackie Lord had 19 points and five assists as second-ranked Brea Olinda opened its season by crushing Fontana, 89-22, in the first round of the Brea Olinda Ladycat tournament Monday.
Sophomore Jennifer Katsuyama and freshmen Lauren Pederson and Kari Noyes scored 10 points each for the Ladycats, who led, 30-6, after the first quarter. Katsuyama and Tara Hefferly each had five steals for Brea.
The Ladycats play Foothill in the second round at 4:30 p.m. today.
In another tournament game:
Foothill 61, Ontario 42--Foothill’s Kristen Mann led all scorers with 34 points, including 14 in a decisive third quarter.
The score was tied, 25-25, at halftime, but the Knights (5-0) broke open the game with a 20-5 third-quarter run.
Mann also had a game-high 17 rebounds, while Lauren Biedebach added 11 points and 10 rebounds for Foothill.
In the Fountain Valley Lady Baron tournament:
Calvary Chapel 61, Riverside Poly 32--The Eagles outscored Poly, 25-1, in the first quarter and went on to an easy pool-play victory.
Lindsey Sherman had 13 points and Ashley Nelson and Richael Werdel had 11 points each for Calvary Chapel, which plays Mater Dei in the second round Wednesday.
Mater Dei 41, Century 36--Jessica Williams had 13 points and Lindesey Gabler scored 10 for Mater Dei.
In the Troy NJB tournament:
No. 1 Troy 83, Garden Grove 25--Veronica Johns-Richardson had 14 points, 17 assists and nine steals, Amanda Livingston had 19 points and nine rebounds and Alicia Komaki scored 23 points for the Warriors (1-0).
Bell Gardens 42, La Habra 36--Silvia Aguilar had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Highlanders (4-2).
Corona del Mar 53, Santa Ana Valley 42--Kristin McCoy had 15 points and 14 rebounds and sophomore Jackie McCoy had 11 points for the Sea Kings (2-0). Crystal Davis paced Santa Ana Valley (4-2) with a game-high 17 points.
Los Angeles Pilgrim 45, Magnolia 34--Jasmine Young had 18 points and seven rebounds and Vao Faoa had nine points and six rebounds for Magnolia (1-1), which faces Kennedy in a second-round game today.
In the South Coast tournament:
University 53, Newport Harbor 39--University’s Shaadi Ariazand scored a game-high 21 points, including five three-pointers, and Kirsten von Tungeln added 11 points and 12 rebounds for the Trojans (2-1) in a consolation game.
In a nonleague game:
Fullerton 45, Rancho Alamitos 27--Leilani Kauhane had 11 points and 12 rebounds and Julie Blied had 10 points, six steals and six assists for visiting Fullerton (2-3), which held Rancho Alamitos to six first-half points. Rancho Alamitos is 1-4.
