Award in Smog Case
* Re “Lawyers Due $88.5 Million in Smog Case,” Dec. 1: What would $88 million buy? Let’s see . . . assuming a 40% tax rate would leave me with approximately $52 million, there would be enough for my fiance, brother, sister, future stepchildren (two), godchildren (three), a dear friend and me to each put $1 million in the bank and use the remaining $42 million to start a charitable foundation, endow a fellowship or five at a university, feed the homeless, etc.
Shame on the arbitrators for prolonging the pain caused by [the smog-impact fee imposed on out-of-state vehicles] and shame on the law firms for accepting the award.
