Social Security Office Is Moving Upstairs
The Social Security Administration is moving to bigger quarters within the Human Services Building.
With a need for greater space for its 14 employees and new modular furniture and computer equipment, the federal agency will relocate Monday from a first-floor office in the 80 E. Hillcrest Drive building to Suite 200 on the second floor. The first-floor office closed this Friday afternoon.
The Social Security office, currently about 3,700 square feet, will move into about 5,400 square feet, said Eliana Gomez, branch manager.
The Thousand Oaks office was one of a few in the western region of the country that didn’t have updated computer equipment, Gomez said. The office needed modular workstations to accommodate the equipment, but first needed more office space for those workstations, she said. The computer equipment is scheduled to arrive in February, she said.
The Roche Co., which manages the building, added 2,000 square feet to each level of the facility within the past year. The added space on the top floor allowed the Social Security office to move.
Its old office and the added space on the bottom floor, which is still being renovated, will soon accommodate Interface, Catholic Charities, the Jewish Federation Council and a new thrift shop for Senior Concerns, said Hugo Roche, property manager.
Rent for the Social Security Administration has increased from $5,600 to $9,500 per month, which will cover the operating costs of the entire building. This allows Community Conscience, a consortium of 17 nonprofit organizations, to use the building rent-free, Roche said.
