Slotnick, Linder in Another Final
Shannon Slotnick and Caryn Linder of Granada Hills High, the 1999 City Section doubles champions, will get a chance for an encore.
The top-seeded team in the City girls’ tennis individual tournament defeated Kelly Chain and Jennifer Bermudez of Westchester, 6-1, 6-7 (4), 6-0, in the semifinals Friday at Balboa Recreation Center in Encino.
Linder and Slotnick will face No. 3-seeded Tracey Takeshita and Andrea Blieden of Granada Hills in the championship match at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the same site.
Takeshita and Blieden upset No. 2-seeded Jennifer Lin and Ashley St. Amand of Palisades, 6-3, 6-3.
In singles semifinals, No. 2-seeded Moe Moe Myinttun of Fairfax defeated Granada Hills’ Jasmin Dao, 6-2, 6-3, and Carson’s Judith De Vera defeated Charlena Brown of L.A. CES, 6-1, 7-5.
Dao plays Brown in the third-place match Monday.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Holy Names 69, Cal Lutheran 65--Justin Muth had 26 points and 11 rebounds, but the Kingsmen were outshot, 60% to 42.9%, in a nonconference loss at Cal Lutheran.
Victor Esquer had 15 points and Pat Holmberg added 10 for Cal Lutheran (3-2).
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The Master’s 78, Pt. Loma Nazarene 48--Tori Olson scored a career-high 22 points and the Mustangs (8-2) posted their sixth consecutive victory in a nonconference game at Master’s.
Ventura 78, Santa Ana 43--Estelle Diaz scored 13 points and Monique Taylor had 12 points and nine rebounds for Ventura in a semifinal game at the Moorpark tournament.
Sarah Kolbeck had 11 rebounds for Ventura, which out-rebounded Santa Ana, 51-25.
