Tritons’ Burnette Headed to Washington St.
Tim Burnette of San Clemente High committed Friday to attend Washington State, Triton Coach Eric Patton said.
Burnette, a 6-foot-7, 235-pound tight end, caught a team-high 30 passes for 276 yards and six touchdowns this season. He also played defensive end and had five sacks.
* Saddleback College tight end Zach Foster and defensive back Brandon Runk, both from Woodbridge High, have been named to the J.C. Grid-Wire Scholar-Athlete All-American team for 2000.
Foster was the team’s third-leading receiver this season with 16 catches for 197 yards. Runk had 77 tackles, fourth on the team, and led the team with three interceptions.
GOLF
Barry Wallace will coach the women’s golf team at Orange Coast College next fall. Wallace, the school’s athletic director from 1989 to 1996, has coached men’s golf for three seasons.
WATER POLO
Eight all-star water polo teams from Southern California will meet Sunday at Villa Park High for the fifth Southern Pacific All-Star tournament. Three Orange County teams will compete against teams from San Luis Obispo, Los Angeles and the Inland Empire.
Games will be played every hour, beginning at 8 a.m. The championship game is set for 4 p.m. Admission is $3 for adults and $1 for students.
