Speeding on Streets, Freeways
Re “Life-and-Death Choices,” Nov. 26.
Thank you for finally identifying the root cause of the vast majority of traffic accidents in Los Angeles, which is not faulty tires, oversized sport-utility vehicles or road rage but rather, plain and simple, excessive speed. We need to address the fact that motorists routinely drive 55 mph in a 35 mph zone, 45 mph in a 25 mph zone and so on. Until speeding violations on surface streets in Los Angeles are dealt with, we will continue to see horrible accidents and deaths on our freeways, on which motorists think nothing of exceeding the speed limit by 30 to 40 mph. It’s time we slowed down and saved lives.
