Top-seeded Los Altos High held on to capture its second consecutive Division VII crown with a 28-21 victory over Charter Oak at Citrus College before 5,000 Saturday night.
The Conquerors, holders of a 21-game winning streak, got a big lift from 6-foot-5, 255-pound Shaun Cody, whose one-yard run with 32 seconds remaining gave the Conquerors (14-0) the lead for good.
Cody’s one-yard run with 7:43 remaining in the third quarter tied the score, 14-14.
After Cody’s second touchdown, Charter Oak (11-3) used four plays to reach the Los Altos nine-yard line on a 32-yard pass to tight end Neil Reagin and a 29-yard pass to David Boler from quarterback Brandon Kile.
But on the final play of the game, Kile’s pass to Amir Carr in the end zone was dropped.
In the second half, Los Altos deployed Cody at fullback and he responded with 67 yards in eight carries. He also caught two passes for 27 yards.
Los Altos quarterback Felipe Aguilar was 13 for 24 for 149 yards and one touchdown. Kile completed 11 of 23 for 295 yards and two touchdowns, but he also threw three interceptions, all picked off by Ramon Martinez.
Martinez returned his first interception 34 yards for a touchdown.
