Burwell, Hagedorn Help OCC Roll Over Grossmont
Nick Burwell made six three-pointers and led all scorers with 30 points and Chad Hagedorn had 18 points, 10 rebounds and six blocked shots as Orange Coast beat visiting Grossmont, 98-88, in a nonconference men’s basketball game Saturday.
Burwell made six of 12 three-point attempts and Hagedorn was six of six from the field.
The Pirates (5-4) led, 57-45, at halftime and went on a 13-4 run to start the second half to stretch the lead to 21 points. Grossmont never threatened again.
Four Orange Coast players scored in double figures. Ryan Earl scored 13 and Rich Oliver 11.
Nate Sandeford had 18 points and 12 rebounds for Grossmont (8-3).
In another nonconference game:
Chaffey 76, Cypress 65--Brandon Erquart scored 16 points, Pat Douglas 14 and Abe Lorenzana 11 for Cypress (4-6). Chaffey is 6-6.
In the Riverside Holiday tournament:
Irvine Valley 78, East Los Angeles 60--Irvine Valley had five players score in double figures and made 15 of 16 free throws in the third-place game.
Chris Ferguson led the Lasers (8-5) with 20 points, reserve Mike Ahmad had 12 and guard Danny Dinh made all eight of his free throws and had six assists.
In Hancock women’s basketball tournament:
Golden West 58, Cerro Coso 48--The Rustlers took a 15-5 lead and never trailed in the third-place game. Alison Brennan and Monica Curiel each scored 13 points for Golden West (2-5).
