U.N. Says 53 Million People Malnourished

More than 53 million Latin Americans are malnourished, with Haitians, Nicaraguans, Bolivians and Hondurans experiencing the highest rates, the World Food Program, or WFP, said. Argentina has the region’s lowest rate--1% of its 35 million people are malnourished. It was followed by Uruguay, Chile, Ecuador and Mexico, the U.N. agency said in Tegucigalpa, the Honduran capital. In Haiti, 61% of the 7.7 million inhabitants suffer from malnutrition. Nicaragua has a malnutrition rate of 31%, Bolivia 23% and Honduras 21%, the WFP said.
