Cal Poly SLO Defeats UC Riverside

Chris Bjorklund scored 18 points and four teammates also scored in double figures to give Cal Poly San Luis Obispo a 95-72 victory Sunday over UC Riverside at San Luis Obispo.
Cal Poly SLO (5-2) shot 51% from the field and outrebounded the Highlanders, 49-30. The scoring attack included Jamal Scott’s 17 points, Jeremiah Mayes’ 14, and 12 points apiece from Varnie Dennis and Brandon Beeson.
The Mustangs went on a 16-2 spurt late in the first half to increase their lead to 41-27. But UC Riverside (3-5) responded and cut the lead to 48-40 early in the second half. However, Scott’s layup keyed a 12-0 run midway through the second half.
The Highlanders shot 42.6% from the floor and were led by Mark Miller, who finished with 15 points.
