Los Alamitos Beats Gahr in Overtime

Mark Lotman made a game-tying three-point basket with less than a minute left in regulation, then made five of five free throws in overtime to help Los Alamitos to a 61-51 victory over Cerritos Gahr Thursday night at Gahr High.

DeShaun Jones had 16 points, Eddie Courtemarche had 13, Brian Rakusin had 11 points and Lotman finished with eight for Los Alamitos (5-5), which outscored Gahr, 12-2, in the overtime period.

In other nonleague games:

Fullerton 77, Pico Rivera Mesrobian 21--Virgil Bobar had 23 points and 15 rebounds, Jimmy Gentry had six points and 15 rebounds and Phillip Gross and Brian Garcia scored 14 points each for the Indians (8-2). Mesrobian is 2-5.

Garden Grove 53, El Modena 40--Steve Sosa had 14 points and Andy Scimeca hit three three-pointers and scored 13 points for visiting Garden Grove (6-3).

Sierra Madre Maranatha 55, Capistrano Valley Christian 41--Ross Skinner had 10 points for visiting Capistrano Valley Christian (4-6), which fell behind, 28-6, at halftime.

In the Arroyo Grande tournament:

Ocean View 59, San Luis Obispo 47--Torin Beeler had 23 points and 10 rebounds, Marques Crane added 13 points and Kevin Chow had six assists for the sixth-ranked Seahawks (6-1), who made only four of 20 free throws. Ocean View plays Los Angeles Taft in tonight’s semifinal. San Luis Obispo is 4-3.

In the Downey Calvary Chapel tournament:

Brentwood 72, Whittier Christian 47--Whittier Christian’s Bret Johnson scored 14 points before fouling out in the pool-play game.

In the Lynwood (Wash.) Shorewood boys’ basketball invitational:

Newport Harbor 55, Lynwood (Wash.) Shorewood 51--Senior Aaron Yarnal was eight for eight from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, finishing with 20 points for the 10th-ranked Sailors (10-3). Tony Melum scored a game-high 22 points.

In the Orangewood Academy tournament:

Orangewood Academy 80, La Sierra Academy 66--Mike Mitchell scored 23 points as the Spartans won the championship game of their own tournament.

In the Trabuco Hills Reebok tournament:

Fontana Miller 72, Costa Mesa 68--Down by 13 points after three quarters, Costa Mesa rallied with 29 fourth-quarter points, only to fall short. Jun Gandia had 20 points for the Mustangs in the pool-play game.

Santa Margarita 58, Palos Verdes Chadwick 31--Brandon Rohe had 16 points, Lenny Collins 12 and Travis Smith had 10 points for Santa Margarita, which faces Laguna Hills in a semifinal game tonight. The Eagles are ranked second in Orange County.

Trabuco Hills 73, Glendale Hoover 63--James Webster had 12 points, eight rebounds and eight assists to lead the Mustangs (7-3) to a pool-play win.

John Kupper and Aaron Tudor each had 12 points.
