Demonstrations Against Rape

Re “Students Rally for Class on Rape Prevention,” Dec. 15.
The student demonstration demanding rape prevention instruction is symptomatic of a horrible societal tragedy. Why is it that the young protestors are seeking institutional help? Why is it that they can shout out their needs and desires to the media and institutional officials, but not their parents?
I am disturbed by the expectation that society and public institutions must assume responsibility for the most fundamental aspect of parenting, teaching one’s kids what is right, and the absolute personal responsibility to live by that standard.
