Huskies Too Much for Rams
Connecticut freshman Caron Butler wasn’t paying attention to the box score, but his teammates were.
He needed one more assist for a triple-double, they told him. He got it with 2:43 to play when a quick inside bounce-pass to Johnnie Selvie paid off.
Butler finished with 14 points, 12 rebounds and 11 assists Tuesday to lead No. 10-ranked Connecticut to an 87-76 victory over Rhode Island at Hartford, Conn. Selvie had a career-high 26 points.
Butler is the first Connecticut player to achieve a triple-double since Doron Sheffer in 1995-96.
Despite Butler’s play, the Huskies (10-1) all eight three-point shots and basically stumbled against the Rams (3-8), who could not match Connecticut’s quickness and size.
Oregon 82, South Carolina State 60--Bryan Bracey had 22 points and Anthony Norwood added 16 for the Ducks at Eugene, Ore.
Fredrick Jones added 15 points for the Oregon (8-1). Greg Gray scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs (4-7).
