New Year’s Day Closures
The following schedules are in effect Monday, New Year’s Day:
MAIL: All post offices will be closed and no mail will be delivered.
BANKS: Banks and savings and loan institutions will be closed.
COURTS: All courts will be closed.
SCHOOLS: There will be no classes at most public elementary and secondary schools through Jan. 8. Year-round schools will reopen Tuesday.
LIBRARIES: County libraries will be closed today and Monday; city libraries will be closed Monday.
GOVERNMENT: All federal, state, county and municipal offices will be closed.
TRANSPORTATION: MTA buses, light rail and subway lines will offer free rides, beginning at 9 p.m. today. The free rides will be offered until light rail and subway lines close late tonight, and on buses until 5 a.m. Monday. On Monday, buses will follow the Sunday schedule; Metrolink trains will not run.
TRASH: In the city of Los Angeles, trash pickup will be delayed one day during the first week of January.
