Hart, Westlake Will Meet in 2000
Hart and Westlake, the region’s top two prep football teams in 1999, have agreed to play in the third game of the 2000 season at Westlake High.
Hart went 14-0 last season and won the Southern Section Division III championship. Westlake went 13-1 and won the Division IV title.
* Buena High running back D.J. Blackledge has committed to Army.
Blackledge, The Times’ offensive player of the year in Ventura County, rushed for 1,779 yards and 25 touchdowns last season for the Channel League champions.
In his career, Blackledge rushed for 2,691 yards and 36 touchdowns.
* Hueneme offensive guard Tyrone Tutogi, a two-time All-Southern Section Division IV selection, has committed to Cal State Northridge.
The 6-foot-2, 260-pound Tutogi took recruiting trips to Colorado and Northridge.
* Punter Matt Witcher of Chaminade and kicker John Wall of Birmingham have committed to San Jose State. Offensive lineman John Turner of Chaminade committed to Dartmouth.
BASEBALL
* The City Section has set a date of June 6 for the City Championship game at Dodger Stadium. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be played the previous week, allowing teams to have their No. 1 pitchers ready for the final, which will be played on a Tuesday night.
* Crescenta Valley High will host a youth baseball and softball coaches’ clinic on Feb. 19 from 8-11 a.m. at Stengel Field in Glendale.
SOFTBALL
* Koddee Murphy, former coach for Valley College and the Tampa Bay Fire Styxx, and Coach David Wilder of the Southern California Kaos, will conduct a clinic for girls 6-16 from 10 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Saturday at the Northridge ASA fields. Information: (818) 341-6501, ext. 11, or (818) 368-4654.
BASKETBALL
* Guard Felix Lang of Valley College was selected Western State Conference men’s player of the week for the second time this season.
