El Toro Wraps Up Title With Victory Over Capistrano Valley
El Toro clinched its first league title since 1987 by defeating Capistrano Valley, 60-46, Friday night at Capistrano Valley.
Chris Parish hit a key three-pointer late in the fourth quarter to stop a 12-2 run by Capistrano Valley that had pulled the Cougars to within two points.
Ashkan Nazeri had 18 points and Ken Tanaka and Kyle Martin chipped in with 11 points each for the seventh-ranked Chargers (20-4, 8-0).
Pete Decasas had 14 points, including four three-pointers, and Matt Sweany had 12 points for Capistrano Valley (15-9, 5-3).
In another South Coast League game:
Trabuco Hills 86, Mission Viejo 85 (OT)--Brennon Martin made a three-pointer at the buzzer in overtime to give the Mustangs the victory. Teammate John Kupper made a three-pointer with 30 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score, 71-71, and force the extra period.
Martin scored 23 points for the Mustangs (12-12, 5-3), including six three-pointers, and Evan Fields added 21 points and 12 rebounds.
Travis Niesen scored 26 points for Mission Viejo (2-6 in league).
