The City Council voted 5 to 0 recently to lower the speed limit along Avenida de las Flores from the unposted 65 mph to a posted 40 mph between Santa Margarita Parkway and Avenida de las Banderas.
The council also lowered the speed from 65 to 40 mph on Alma Aldea between Banderas and La Promesa. The limit will be reduced further to 35 mph on Alma Aldea between La Promesa and Santa Margarita Parkway, where the road passes Santa Margarita Intermediate School and Cielo Vista Elementary.
The council delayed action on a proposal to place a crossing guard at the intersection of Alma Aldea and Avenida de las Fundadores.
