The city is preparing to spend $15,000 in promotional materials to get residents to the polls March 7--the first time the city allocated money to encourage its voters to participate in an election.
Laguna Beach is a member of the anti-airport El Toro Reuse Planning Authority, which supports Measure F--the Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative--aimed at killing the airport. A banner that reads “Vote on March 7,” will be strung across Forest Avenue and direct mailers will be sent to all households with registered voters. An application for absentee voting will be included in the mailers.
City Manager Kenneth C. Frank, who is overseeing the project, said he is still deciding whether to use a computer-operated phone system to ring homes, reminding residents about voting day.
