Police Arrest Parolee After Chase
PORT HUENEME — A 24-year-old parolee was arrested early Wednesday after leading police on a chase that reached speeds of 120 mph, authorities said.
Denny Fields of Santa Clarita was taken into custody about 5:15 a.m. after he abandoned the car he was driving and ran to his girlfriend’s house in the 2500 block of Yardarm Avenue in Port Hueneme, said Officer Dave Webb of the California Highway Patrol.
“We found him hiding in a closet in her house,” Webb said.
The incident started about 3:30 a.m. when officers spotted Fields and his girlfriend parked next to a “No Parking Sign” at Mugu Rock south of Point Mugu, Webb said.
When officers pulled up behind the car, it sped off, leading police on a chase north on Pacific Coast Highway, through Oxnard and ending in an alley near Yardarm Avenue, Webb said.
Police said Fields abandoned the car, a rental he had borrowed from a friend, and ran off. His girlfriend, who was left in the car, assisted police in finding the driver. He was booked into jail on suspicion of drunk driving and evading arrest.
