SAN CLEMENTE
The city has stepped up its efforts to bring the Festival of Arts here by hiring two consulting firms to study the economic and environmental effects of moving the longtime Laguna Beach event south.
The City Council on Wednesday budgeted $25,000 for the studies, which the city can refer to during negotiations with the board of the arts event.
Some council members were concerned that a push by Festival of Arts exhibitors to recall most of the organization’s board of directors, and keep the event in Laguna Beach, could derail San Clemente’s plans.
San Clemente City Manager Michael W. Parness told the council he had assurances from festival officials that the recent developments have not changed the organization’s desire to relocate.
