Weather Service Predicts 40% Chance of Rain Tonight

A series of storms is still moving through Southern California, but exactly when each storm will arrive and how much rain it will drop are still largely a matter of conjecture.
The National Weather Service forecast for Orange County predicted clouds and a 20% chance of light showers today in the late afternoon, increasing to a 40% chance of rain by tonight. For Sunday, the forecast is a 30% chance of showers, according to WeatherData Inc., which provides forecasts for The Times.
Stacey Johnstone, a meteorologist with WeatherData, said the next storm, due in sometime today, probably will largely bypass Los Angeles. There could be a few light showers at higher elevations this afternoon and maybe a few more on Sunday, she said, but they are not likely to amount to much.
Another storm should roll in Sunday night, Johnstone said, with substantial rain--about half an inch in the valleys--Monday.
