Murray Shifts Focus to His Son

The Kings will have a day off Sunday, which will give Coach Andy Murray time to go home to Minnesota to look in on 15-year-old son Brady, who suffered a concussion when he was cross-checked by a Canadian junior player a week ago.

Brady Murray was playing for Shattuck St. Mary’s, the high school that employed his father until the Kings hired him in June.

Murray was hospitalized after the injury, left the hospital shortly thereafter, then went back Friday, still complaining of concussion symptoms.

Defenseman Aki Berg was scratched for the second consecutive game after a 45-minute talk with Murray in Chicago.

Largely, they talked about Berg’s inconsistency, which has been addressed with two-game scratches three times this season.

After the previous two benchings, Berg came back to play his best games.

Berg complained about playing time in his last game, on Monday against Calgary, when he logged only 7:58 on the ice. But that time was enough for him to turn the puck over four times, the biggest problem in his development as an NHL defenseman.

The Kings made several minor league moves on Friday, picking up center Allan Egeland from Calgary for future considerations, and signing free agent goalie Travis Scoll from Lowell of the AHL and center Jerrid Smithson of the Calgary Hitmen of the Western Hockey League.

Egeland is playing for Long Beach of the IHL and will continue to do so.
