BroadVision Settles Suit
Art Technology Group has agreed to pay $15 million to settle a patent infringement case filed by rival BroadVision Inc. over software that lets businesses customize Web sites to boost online sales.
Shares of Redwood City, Calif.-based BroadVision rose $20.75, or 11%, to close at $207.75 after the company said Art Technology would pay licensing fees to resolve the suit.
The technology allows companies to track users of their Web sites and use that information to automatically create customized pages targeted to those customers’ interests.
Art Technology officials said in a prepared statement that the company was settling the case “to avoid further legal expenses” and wasn’t admitting it infringed BroadVision’s rights to the software.
Shares of Cambridge, Mass.-based Art Technology fell $1 to close at $140 on Nasdaq.
