Ellison Delivers Knockout Punch for Canyons, 66-65
Anthony Ellison scored a game-high 22 points to help College of the Canyons upset Saddleback, 66-65, in a Southern California Regional first-round men’s basketball game Saturday night at Saddleback.
The Cougars (13-18), seeded No. 25, advanced to a second-round game Wednesday at Glendale.
Former Kennedy High standout Nana Gbewonyo scored 13 points for Canyons. Ellison had nine rebounds and Gbewonyo had eight.
Four players scored in double figures for No. 8-seeded Saddleback (23-9), including Rahshaw McAfee, who finished with 15 points.
Valley 95, Orange Coast 79--Issac Williamson scored 17 points and Terrance Slater added 16 to lead the Monarchs in a first-round game on Saturday night at Valley.
Four players scored in double figures for the No. 6-seeded Monarchs (24-8), who took a 44-32 halftime lead and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the second half.
Jerrohn Jordan had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Valley, which will host Oxnard in a second-round game Wednesday night. Felix Lang scored 16 points for the Monarchs.
Jeff Beeler scored 23 points and David Castleton had 22 for No. 27-seeded Orange Coast (13-17).
