Regional CHP Chief to Retire in June
GLENDALE — After 34 years with the California Highway Patrol, Southern Division Chief Edward W. Gomez Monday announced his retirement effective June 1.
He will be replaced by Chief Mike Brown from the agency’s Sacramento headquarters, a CHP spokeswoman said.
Gomez has spent the last 13 years as commander of the CHP’s Southern Division, which is headquartered in Glendale and covers all of Los Angeles County.
Gomez oversees the daily operations of more than 1,600 sworn officers and support staff. Under his leadership, several CHP community programs were developed, including the Explorer Program, which encourages teens to pursue careers in law enforcement, and CHiPs for Kids, an annual toy collection campaign.
Gomez said he plans to remain active within the law enforcement community. He and his wife Nina will continue to reside in Pasadena. A retirement celebration is scheduled for June 1, at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in downtown Los Angeles.
