Point Loma Beats Chapman Women
The Chapman women’s basketball team failed to capitalize on a significant rebounding advantage and a five-point halftime lead, losing to Point Loma Nazarene, 40-34, Friday before 109 at the Hutton Center.
The Panthers (7-3) outrebounded the Crusaders, 62-44, and barely outshot them in a battle of cold-shooting teams. Chapman shot 22.2% from the field, while Point Loma shot 21.2%.
The Crusaders (4-8), led by Erin Kellar’s 10 points and four steals, outscored the Panthers, 24-13, in the second half after trailing, 21-16, at halftime. April Abeyta had 10 points for Chapma.
Concordia 63, University of Mary 61--Taryn Commins scored on a layup with 13 seconds remaining to give the Concordia women’s basketball team the victory against the visitors from Bismarck, N.D. Jaime Gast scored 31 points, including 22 of 29 first-half points for Concordia (10-2). Gast also had 11 rebounds for her third consecutive double-double.
