Devils Hold Off Senators and Win, 4-3

Brendan Morrison made sure the New Jersey Devils had two points to show for their fast start.

Morrison scored 2:52 into overtime to give the Devils to a 4-3 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Monday at Kanata, Canada.

A goal by Ottawa’s Vinnie Prospal with eight-tenths of a second remaining in regulation forced overtime.

“We make it tough on ourselves,” Devil defenseman Scott Stevens said. “But we’re playing smarter hockey and we’re getting rewarded.”

Sergei Brylin, Jason Arnott and Brad Bombardir scored in the first nine minutes as New Jersey raced to a 3-0 lead.

New Jersey finished the season series against Ottawa 3-0-1.

Shawn McEachern scored twice for the Senators, who had lost only one of their previous 10 games and had a five-game home unbeaten streak.

St. Louis 5, New York Rangers 2--Lubos Bartecko scored twice and Todd Reirden had three assists at New York.

St. Louis is 14-5-4 since the return of defenseman Al MacInnis from an injury. The Blues have won eight of 12 road games.

Toronto 6, Buffalo 2--Sergei Berezin scored twice and added an assist as the Maple Leafs got revenge on the Sabres at Toronto.

Igor Korolev also had two goals for the Maple Leafs, who lost, 8-1, at Buffalo on Saturday.

The win gave Toronto the best record in the Eastern Conference and Coach Pat Quinn the coaching duties behind the North American bench at the All-Star game.

Colorado 2, Edmonton 2--The Avalanche’s Alex Tanguay tied the score late in the third period and Jon Klemm had his first goal in nearly two months at Denver.

Doug Weight and Roman Hamrlik scored for Edmonton, which remained a point behind Colorado at the top of the Northwest Division.
