CYA Parolee Named to Advisory Group
Gov. Gray Davis named a Ventura CYA parolee Wednesday to his advisory committee on juvenile justice and delinquency.
Jennine Contreras, 20, spent three years at the Ventura Youth Correctional Facility and has been on parole for nearly two years.
She now works as a health educator with California Drug Consultants, where she helps troubled youths in parole offices, juvenile halls and continuation schools.
She teaches them about sexually transmitted diseases, conducts drug counseling groups and assists them with employment matters.
She hopes to earn an honorable discharge and a degree, and eventually return to the California Youth Authority as a counselor or parole agent.
