Sotheby’s Exhibition Linked to Launch of Auction Web Site
Sotheby’s will launch its Internet auction site, https://www.sothebys.com, with a public exhibition at the auction house’s facility in Beverly Hills, Tuesday through Jan. 18.
More than 100 objects will be on view, including a Louis XV-style grand piano, a watercolor by Jean Charlot, prints by Winslow Homer and Wayne Thiebaud, photographs by Robert Mapplethorpe and Barbara Morgan and a variety of jewelry, books, sculpture and decorative arts.
All the pieces consigned to the weeklong auction can be viewed on the Web site, and all sales will be transacted online.
The exhibition offers collectors an opportunity to see the actual artworks and other items before placing bids.
Sotheby’s gallery, at 9665 Wilshire Blvd., will be open Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
