Crescenta Valley and Muir have dominated the Pacific League girls race for several seasons, tying for the championship last year.

Muir (11-3) appears strong again, but Crescenta Valley (10-5) has struggled in recent weeks, losing four of seven games during the winter break.

The Falcons learn in today’s league opener with Muir if they’re prepared.

New Mexico State-bound swing player Sinnamonn Garrett is averaging 19.8 points and 9.5 rebounds for Crescenta Valley. Guard Kristie Umemoto and Laura Zerebko have been consistent, but depth, especially in the backcourt, has been a concern for the Falcons.

Inconsistency has plagued Glendale (9-6). Hilary Driffill and Aneka Hartounian have been the Dynamiters’ top players.

The record doesn’t show it, but Hoover (6-9) is one of the region’s most improved. The Tornadoes were 4-36 in league play during the last four seasons, never winning more than six games overall.

With new Coach Jack Van Patten and senior guards Razan Ezzedin and Tenie Hartounian, Hoover should be competitive.
