SAN FRANCISCO--Activities to mark the birthday of Martin Luther King Jr. next weekend will include a Youth and Family Day at the Sony Metreon Center, noon-6 p.m. Saturday. At 10 a.m. Jan. 17, the Freedom Train from San Jose to San Francisco will depart, followed by a march at 11:30 a.m. from the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts to Bill Graham Civic Auditorium, where there will be food and entertainment from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Free. PALM DESERT--Arts and crafts, food and entertainment will be part of the Palm Desert Street Fair presented by the College of the Desert Alumni Assn. next weekend, Jan. 15 and 16, on the campus. 7 a.m.-3 p.m. both days. Free. (760) 568-9921.
OXNARD--Join the Freedom March and family program Jan. 17 for Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday. There will be a march at 8 a.m. from Plaza Park, Fifth and C streets, to the Oxnard Performing Arts Center, where choirs, poets and others will present a program at 9 a.m. 800 Hobson Way. 8 a.m.-noon. $4. MAMMOTH LAKES--A festival linked with the Winter Gravity Games will land on Mammoth Mountain Jan. 21-23. Check out sports equipment all three days outside Canyon Lodge. On Friday night, view highlights of the day’s skiing and snowboarding contests and hear music 8:30 p.m.-12:30 a.m. at the lodge. On Saturday, a concert will begin at 8 p.m. ($15). Free.
