Saugus Warms to Its Task and Cools Burroughs, 61-48

Saugus High hit four of five three-point shots and nine of 10 free throws in the fourth quarter to post a 61-48 victory over Burbank in a Foothill league boys’ basketball game on Tuesday night at Saugus.

The Centurions (12-6, 1-1 in league play), trailed, 39-36, at the end of the third quarter, but scored the first nine points of the fourth quarter to take a 45-39 lead.

Tim Tampus, who scored 17 points for Saugus, hit two three-pointers and Chad Krogh scored eight of his 14 points in the quarter.

Frank Reed scored 16 points for Burbank (10-5, 1-1).

Santa Clara 81, Malibu 55--Jason Angel had 31 points, making four of eight three-pointers, to go with eight assists, three steals and four rebounds in sparking the Saints in a Frontier League victory at Santa Clara.

The Saints (10-5, 1-1), Division V state champions last season, outscored Malibu, 41-17, in the second half.

Earl Hall had 15 points and eight rebounds, and Chris Post added 15 points on five-of-nine shooting for Santa Clara.

Valencia 74, Burroughs 62--Albert Ingram had 18 points and eight assists, and Will Broadous had 16 points and 12 rebounds for the Vikings (7-10, 1-1) in a Foothill League victory at Valencia.

Hart 46, Canyon 44--Liam Waters had 20 points and six rebounds, and Tamir Barkan had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists for the Indians in a Foothill League victory at Hart.

Barkan made a three-pointer and a free throw in the last 1:32 for Hart (7-11, 1-1).

Crescenta Valley 100, Hoover 52--Jimmy Goffredo had 24 points for the Falcons in a Pacific League victory at Crescenta Valley.

Chris Rubio scored 22 of his 28 points in the second half for Hoover (2-15, 1-1).

Mark McCauley had 17 points and nine assists for the Falcons (14-4, 1-1), who outscored the Tornadoes, 53-32, in the second half.

Muir 72, Glendale 58--Gilbert Yousefian had 21 points and four steals, and Erik Petrosyan scored 16 points for the Dynamiters (8-9, 0-2) in a losing cause in a Pacific League game at Glendale.

Calabasas 59, Santa Paula 44--Joey Pedram had 10 points and seven rebounds for the Coyotes in a Frontier League opening victory at Calabasas.

Newbury Park Adventist 51, Trinity Lutheran 36--Pedram Afzal had 10 points and 10 rebounds in a losing effort for host Trinity Lutheran.

Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian 59, Santa Clarita Christian 55--Alex Martino had 21 points and five steals to spark visiting Granada Hills Hillcrest Christian in a Westside League game.

Providence 89, Windward 52--Shant Bekmezian made five three-point shots and scored all of his 21 points in the second half when the Pioneers outscored the Wildcats, 57-30, in a Liberty League game at Providence.

Derek Jones scored 18 points and Gino Pedraja 17 had for the Pioneers (13-2, 5-0), ranked No. 4 in the Southern Section Division IV-A.
