Sale of Soccer Team Expected This Week
The purchase of Orange County’s A-League soccer franchise will be completed today or Friday, league president Tim Holt said Wednesday.
Holt said the league is choosing between Peacock Financial, a venture capital firm in San Jacinto, and an unnamed venture capital firm in Orange County.
“We’re just deciding who can provide the most stability in Orange County,” he said. “We’re not looking for the best financial deal, we’re looking for a different approach.”
The A-League assumed control of the Zodiac franchise two weeks ago when former owner John Frankhouse defaulted on a $50,000 line of credit. The United Soccer Leagues released the 2000 A-League schedule Wednesday. The Orange County team is scheduled to open its season April 9 against U.S. Pro 40 at Santa Ana Stadium.
Steve Peacock, CEO of Peacock Financial, said he is confident he will be chosen as the owner. “I believe it’s a good time to get into the A-League in a solid market,” said Peacock, who recently purchased the A-League San Francisco Bay Seals and owns a small portion of the San Diego Flash.
