Wachs Urges Boycott of S. Carolina in Flag Dispute
- Share via
LOS ANGELES — City Councilman Joel Wachs called Tuesday for Los Angeles to join a boycott of South Carolina until that state’s Legislature removes the Confederate flag from its statehouse.
Saying the flag is a symbol of racism, Wachs made a motion to prohibit city employees from visiting South Carolina at government expense until the flag is taken down. The motion will be considered by the council next week.
Wachs also sought a U.S. Justice Department investigation into whether flying the flag over the statehouse violates civil rights laws.
