Elected Officials
* We the people, the duly elected officials and the staff employed to carry on the daily routine of city and county business, all hold unique positions in our social interaction as a democracy. We the people choose the elected officials to carry our collective will as forthrightly, openly and speedily as possible.
A candidate for public office is just one of us hoping for public service as a profession to satisfy a personal desire. When a candidate is elected, he or she represents all of the electorate--not just a portion. It must be emphasized that the candidate was elected, not ordained, and must follow all the laws and respond to the will of the people. Above all they must keep in mind that they are to serve the people, not be their master.
As residents of the city and county of Ventura, we implore our elected officials to work together, with thoughtful debate, devoid of personal ambitions, to make our area better than it is now for us all.
